The Mark Paine Foundation: Honoring a Legacy Through Sport
The Mark Paine Foundation was established in 2024 to honor the life and legacy of Mark Paine, a beloved father of two young children Decker and Charlie. Mark was also a former Saratoga High School star athlete who tragically passed away in February 2024. Mark left a lasting impact on the Saratoga sports community through his talent, leadership, and passion for the games he loved.
A standout goaltender, Mark earned First Team All-State honors and led the Blue Streaks to their first-ever New York State High School Hockey Championship. He continued his hockey career at SUNY Cortland, where he played four seasons for the men’s ice hockey team. Mark was also a three-year starter for the Saratoga Varsity Baseball team, demonstrating his dedication and excellence across multiple sports.
Shortly after his passing, the Mark Paine Foundation was created to carry on his legacy by giving back to the athletic programs and communities that shaped him. Through ongoing fundraising efforts, the foundation recently awarded a $5,000 scholarship to a Saratoga High School senior hockey player during Senior Night in February.
The foundation proudly partners with Saratoga Youth Hockey, Saratoga Little League, and the Saratoga varsity athletic programs. Together, we offer grants, college scholarships, free skills clinics, and support for equipment needs—all with the goal of making youth sports more accessible and enriching for local children.
We invite you to support our mission as we continue to build stronger, more inclusive programs where young athletes can thrive and grow through the sports they love—just as Mark did.
"Sports can unite a group of people from different backgrounds, all working together to achieve a common goal."
